TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jul 15, 2004) - Enbridge Gas Distribution is advising customers in the Peterborough area who have experienced flooding that resulted in their natural gas appliances, meters or regulators being submerged to call 1-888-447-4911. Enbridge will send out a technician to turn off the natural gas supply to the premises.
If electrically-operated gas appliances, including those with power vents, or any other electric equipment has been submerged or partially submerged in water, do not enter the flooded area due to an electrical shock hazard.
Once the flooding has subsided, any gas appliances that were submerged in water must be checked and inspected by a qualified gas technician to ensure that they can be operated safely before natural gas service is restored. Customers may call their service or rental company or individual contractors listed in the Yellow Pages under Heating Contractors or Appliances - Sales & Service.
Customers who smell natural gas or are aware of damage to natural gas equipment due to floating debris should also call 1-888-447-4911. Emergency calls will receive top priority.
