TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jul 16, 2004) - Enbridge Gas
Distribution is advising customers in the Peterborough area who
had their gas supply turned off by Enbridge or the fire
department due to flooding to contact a TSSA-qualified gas dealer
when the basement is accessible and clear of water.
Any gas appliances that were submerged in water must be checked
and inspected by a qualified gas technician. Any gas controls
that have been submerged must be replaced before gas service is
restored. Customers should not attempt to restore gas service
themselves. A qualified technician may turn on the gas meter to
assist in determining if the appliances are safe to operate. Only
after the qualified technician determines that the appliances are
safe to operate, can the technician leave the gas service on.
To find a qualified technician, customers may call their service
or rental company/dealer or individual contractors listed in the
Yellow Pages under Heating Contractors or Appliances - Sales &
Service. Although there are no Enbridge charges, rental or
service companies may charge for inspections and repairs.
Information about certified gas technicians is available from the
Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) at www.tssa.org,
or the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of
Canada at www.hrai.ca.
Customers who smell natural gas or are aware of new damage to
natural gas equipment should call Enbridge at 1-888-447-4911.
Emergency calls will receive top priority.
