TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 3, 2004) - Enbridge Gas Distribution is advising its customers in the area bordered by St. Clair Avenue West, Lawrence Avenue West, Yonge Street and Bathurst Street in the City of Toronto that natural gas service has been temporarily turned off following damage to a natural gas pipeline near the site of a water main break.
As a result of the damage, water has entered the natural gas distribution system in this area. The presence of water in the natural gas distribution system can negatively impact natural gas pressure and our ability to deliver natural gas. If water in the natural gas line reaches any natural gas appliance, it can potentially damage the appliance and impact its safe operation.
All water must be removed from natural gas pipelines and the distribution system must be tested before service can be restored. Enbridge Gas Distribution has dispatched a team of natural gas distribution experts who are working as quickly as possible to make the necessary repairs to the natural gas distribution system and remove the water. It may take several days to make the necessary repairs to Enbridge's distribution system.
Enbridge personnel will also be going door-to-door in the affected area in order to determine if water present in the natural gas distribution system has entered impacted premises and whether any damage to natural gas equipment or appliances has occurred. If so, Enbridge Gas Distribution will make arrangements with companies in the natural gas service industry that provide appliance sales, maintenance and service to complete any necessary repairs or replacements. Damage to any appliance or equipment resulting from the presence of water in the natural gas distribution system will be repaired at no cost to customers.
Once the work on the natural gas distribution system has been completed and necessary repairs have been made to any damaged equipment, natural gas service will be restored to individual customers.
