CALGARY, ALBERTA--
Multi-year title sponsorship of Canada's leading festival of new
Canadian theatre
Alberta Theatre Projects (ATP) today announced that Enbridge Inc.
(Enbridge) has become the title sponsor for ATP's playRites
Festival of New Canadian Plays under a three-year agreement.
The 18th annual festival runs from January 28 to March 7, 2004
and will now be known as the Enbridge playRites Festival of New
Canadian Plays.
Since its launch on January 18, 1987, the Festival has become the
leading producer of new Canadian theatre having launched 161
productions that have been presented by 91 theatre companies
across Canada, the United States and abroad. Since its inception,
the Festival's audience has totaled more that a quarter million
people in Calgary alone.
"We're proud of our accomplishments in fostering artistic
excellence in the development of new Canadian plays and
innumerable Canadian playwrights, and this generous support from
Enbridge will enable us to continue to play a national leadership
role," said ATP Artistic Director, Bob White. "This new
partnership has great significance far beyond Calgary. In the
last two years 57 productions of the plays developed here have
been presented on a variety of Canadian and international
stages."
"Enbridge's sponsorship philosophy is to look for unique
opportunities to advance Canadian artistic work," said Michelle
Madley, Community Investment Advisor at Enbridge. "Our approach
reflects a broader philosophy to bring additional resources to
the partnership and see the Enbridge playRites Festival of New
Canadian Plays grow nationally and support the next generation of
Canadian artists."
ATP was founded by Lucille Wagner and Douglas Riske in 1972 and
performed for 13 years in the Canmore Opera House at Heritage
Park, Calgary. In 1985, ATP moved to the Martha Cohen Theatre in
the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts. For more information
