TORONTO, ONTARIO--Enbridge Gas Distribution and Natural Resources
Canada are teaming up to help customers save energy and money.
Enbridge Gas Distribution customers can now save $200 on the
installation of an ENERGY STAR(R) qualified high-efficiency
natural gas furnace or boiler. The ENERGY STAR(R) symbol helps
consumers easily identify the most energy-efficient products. The
rebate is available for heating systems installed to replace any
existing system between October 1, 2002 and September 30, 2003.
The rebates will be credited to eligible customers' gas accounts.
Enbridge Gas Distribution and Natural Resources Canada are both
contributing $100 towards the rebates. Customers who have already
submitted the coupon for the $100 rebate offered by Enbridge Gas
Distribution since October 1, 2002 will automatically be credited
the additional $100 now offered.
Since 1995, Enbridge Gas Distribution's energy efficiency
programs, including rebates, have saved more than 600 million
cubic metres of natural gas-enough to supply more than 200,000
homes with space and water heating for a year.
"In addition to reducing energy costs for customers, our energy
efficiency programs have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by more
than one million tonnes," said Jim Schultz, President of Enbridge
Gas Distribution. "We're pleased that the support of Natural
Resources Canada has doubled the savings available to customers
on this offer."
"This program will encourage Canadians to find heating solutions
that save energy and contribute to a healthy environment and
quality of life in our communities," said the Honourable Herb
Dhaliwal, Minister of Natural Resources Canada. "By working in
partnership with Enbridge Gas Distribution, the Government of
Canada is helping more Canadians get involved in tackling the
challenge of climate change."
The rebates are available to residential and small commercial
customers in Enbridge Gas Distribution's franchise area which
includes Ottawa-Carleton Region, the Greater Toronto Area,
Simcoe, Dufferin, York, Durham, the Niagara Peninsula,
Peterborough and many other Ontario communities. The completed
rebate coupon with the bill of sale must be mailed to Enbridge
Gas Distribution, Attn: Mass Markets, P.O. Box 650, Scarborough,
ON M1K 5E3 and postmarked no later than October 8, 2003. Some

shape the important contributions of the natural resources sector
to the Canadian economy, society and environment. By promoting
the responsible use of our natural resources, NRCan builds on the
Government of Canada's commitment to ensuring the quality of life
in our communities, a healthy environment and continued economic
prosperity - for the Canada we want, for ourselves and for future
generations. This Government of Canada investment is part of the
$500-million Action Plan 2000 on Climate Change, a series of
practical, concrete measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
that contribute to climate change. Funding for this initiative
was provided for in the December 2001 budget and is therefore
built into the existing fiscal framework.
